Hello, I’m Zander Li, a rising 12th grader from Laurel Heights Secondary School. People call me gander sometimes because it's a town in Newfoundland and it's funny. I did not copy from last year's team profile.

Astronomy has always been intriguing to me due to its far-reaching application, involving all fields of science and all areas of space. The olympiad also tests a wide range of skills, from analysis of real space data to remembering to wear my Ortho-K lenses the night before night observation. This year is special because it’s in Brazil, meaning people need to pay attention to southern constellations, which no one ever does.

Other than astronomy, I also enjoy playing with oscilloscopes and discharging capacitors through voltmeters. I also read half of Clayden's organic chemistry because I’m crazy and it's better than Klein.

Other than being a nerd, I also like singing, looking at the sky, smile! 😀 ing, listening to EDM, forgetting things, and singing.

Can't wait to meet people!

Also in the photo I’m standing in front of what used to be Einstein’s house I think. E=mc². Yeah!

Hi, I'm Alexander Huang, a rising senior from Upper Canada College, Toronto. I enjoyed astronomy since I was a kid. In particular, I loved chemical abundances of different stars and their violent supernova explosions. In my free time, I love mathematics, especially differential geometry and algebraic topology. I also love playing soccer and Civilization VI in my free time.

I’m Olivia, a rising 12th grader from Ottawa. My favorite subjects are physics and astronomy: this summer I worked with a research group at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and made an AI pipeline for X-ray light curve analysis. I also like playing violin and ping pong.

I haven’t been to the South hemisphere before, so I’m looking forward to visiting Brazil and seeing the Magellanic clouds! Also, I read that Brazil makes really cool violin bows.

Hi, I'm Parth Sheth, a rising 12th grader at Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School, Calgary, Canada. When I'm not doing math or reading a book, I love going on walks and losing myself in the beauty of the stars.

What draws me to astronomy is not just the science, but the sheer prettiness of the night sky and the mysteries it holds. My favorite constellation is Pegasus, mainly because I'm a huge Percy Jackson fan and like Greek mythology.

I've always wanted to travel to Brazil, and I can't wait to attend this year's IOAA in Rio de Janeiro.

Hey! I’m Jarmin Weng, a rising 12th grader from University of Toronto Schools. I have a gazillion nicknames in school and beyond that are either funny variants of my first name or my school email because it sounds cool 😀

For me, astronomy struck as the perfect balance between math, physics, and the curiosity of what is beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. In the 2 years since I’ve really explored science, I have been looking for this balance. This olympiad will again test my poor eyesight, weak immune system, and terrible sleep schedule!

I am also an avid pianist, violinist, cellist, and cpop enjoyer. Maybe I’ll embarrass myself again this year by singing cpop with Zander at the olympiad! (I can’t sing but he can :D)

I’m looking forward to building friendships and forgetting everything on test day!
